Pastures in Navoi Region to Be Planted with Drones
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has ordered the planting of 350,000 hectares of pastures in the Navoi region with fodder and medicinal plants, as reported by the press office of the head of state.
The seeds will be distributed using agricultural drones.
During a meeting on the socio-economic development of the Navoi region, the president highlighted the area’s low performance in livestock farming.
The region accounts for 43% of all pastures in the republic but produces only 5% of Uzbekistan’s livestock products.
Other challenges facing the region’s agriculture include the limited adoption of intensive farming practices and low yield rates. Seventy-two percent of the land is irrigated using outdated pumps with high energy consumption and water-saving technologies are not utilised on 50,000 hectares of farmland.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev has instructed the distribution of 20,000 hectares of agricultural land and to increase the region’s cotton production to 70 centners per hectare. Additionally, laser levelling should be applied to all irrigated lands in the area.
Kursiv Uzbekistan also reports that cotton harvesting contracts can now be concluded through the CropAgro system.
