At the UN Climate Change Conference (COP29) in Baku, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan are set to sign an agreement to establish a joint venture known as the Green Road. This announcement was made by Uzbekistan’s Deputy Energy Minister, Umid Mamadaminov.

“We are engaging the Italian consulting company CESI to conduct a feasibility study. This task will take approximately one year, after which the construction phase will begin. Several international financial organizations are also interested in the project and are considering financing this environmentally friendly initiative. According to estimates, construction will take 3 to 4 years. By 2030, we aim to fully complete the infrastructure to provide the north-west region of Uzbekistan with capabilities for wind and solar energy generation,” he stated.

The project intends to develop and export clean energy to Europe, which aims to reduce its dependence on hydrocarbons and transition to renewable energy sources by 2050.

Kursiv Uzbekistan also reports that Bashkortostan will open a green route to facilitate exporters to Uzbekistan.
