President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has instructed the development of a program and a roadmap for transforming the transport sector. A consulting company will be involved in this initiative.

The meeting highlighted the necessity for Uzbekistan Airports to enhance the volume of services provided and to expand public-private partnerships.

Following the transfer of Samarkand Airport to private management, the number of flights and passengers increased fivefold. Airports in Namangan, Andijan, Bukhara and Urgench now face similar challenges. By the end of the year, plans are in place to double the number of additional services at these airports and to increase revenues by 25%.

Measures have also been developed to attract international resources and fully utilise the Navoi Airport terminal’s capabilities.

Kursiv Uzbekistan also reports that Bukhara’s new airport will have the capacity to accommodate eight aircraft per hour.
