South Korea’s parliament has impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol, Yonhap reports.
The motion received support from 204 out of 300 National Assembly members, allowing the opposition to remove the president from office.
An investigation into Yoon has begun, with authorities suspecting him of treason and rebellion.
The opposition first attempted impeachment in early December but lacked the votes to succeed.
Tensions escalated after President Yoon declared a state of emergency, citing threats from North Korea. He also accused opposition parties of engaging in anti-state activities.
