Companies from various countries will participate in the construction of a small nuclear power plant in the Jizzak region, according to Azim Akhmedkhadjaev, director of the Atomic Energy Agency of Uzbekistan, according to his interview to Report.
The general contractor for the project will be Russia’s Rosatom State Corporation, with some work being carried out by local Uzbek companies. However, the construction of the nuclear power plant will extend beyond just Russian and Uzbek efforts.
Akhmedkhadzhaev pointed out that companies from other nations may also contribute by building infrastructure, machinery stations and service facilities. Experts prioritised reliability and safety over political considerations when selecting a general contractor. He mentioned, “Rosatom offered the best solutions for small nuclear power plants and has demonstrated adequate experience.”
Uzbekistan and Rosatom are committed to fulfilling all agreements despite challenges posed by international sanctions affecting Russia and its nuclear industry.
Uzbekistan is open to collaborating with companies from other countries. The Atomic Energy Agency monitors developments in nuclear technology in Japan, the United States and South Korea and is prepared to diversify its contractors to make the nuclear power plant a truly international project.
Kursiv Uzbekistan also reports that the U.S. ambassador has urged Uzbekistan to ceafurly consider its partners for constructing nuclear power plants.
