The UAE is a reliable and strategic partner for Uzbekistan in the field of green energy, stated President Shavkat Mirziyoyev during the Abu Dhabi Sustainable Development Week Summit.

He highlighted that with the support of Masdar, five power generation facilities with a total capacity of 1.5 GW have been launched in Uzbekistan. Additionally, he mentioned that three more projects are set to be implemented, which will create generating capacities of 1.6 GW, along with energy storage systems capable of approximately 520 MW/h.

Mirziyoyev noted that in collaboration with foreign partners, Tashkent is working on green energy projects totalling $26 bn. By 2030, the aim is to increase the share of renewable energy sources to 54%. The Republic intends to increase the proportion of green components in investment projects to 50% over the next five years.

Other initiatives include the establishment of greenhouse gas emission monitoring systems and the introduction of emissions trading. The President expressed his commitment to transforming Central Asia into a center for developing a green economy and clean energy. He provided the agreement with Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan regarding electricity supplies to the EU as an example.

He called on leading research centers and scientists to collaborate with the newly established Green University in Tashkent to launch research and innovation programs. Mirziyoyev also proposed the creation of an International Research Network to Combat Land Degradation and Desertification based at this university.

In concluding his speech, the President invited everyone to participate in the Global Youth Festival of Digital Green Initiatives scheduled for May 15 in the Aral Sea region.
