Uzbekistan Aims To Employ Over 5 Mn People
In 2025, Uzbekistan plans to employ 5.2 mn people, as reported to President Shavkat Mirziyoyev during a presentation on poverty reduction measures.
This year, 60 cities and districts are set to become poverty-free zones for the first time. With the support of mahalla bankers, 1.5 mn people will secure permanent employment, and over 2 mn citizens will be engaged in business activities. UZS 120 trln will be allocated in loans to support small business projects.
The government plans to implement 32 new poverty reduction mechanisms based on international experience. For instance, solar power plants with a total capacity of 107 MW will be built in 300 underdeveloped mahallas.
In 123 districts, low-income citizens will be offered jobs creating forested areas and nurseries spanning 20,000 hectares. Workers will receive a subsidy of UZS 375,000 for every 100 trees planted.
Other initiatives include setting up guesthouses and food outlets in tourist hotspots and launching e-commerce centres at post offices.
This year, the government plans to implement new mechanisms in 6,400 mahallas, expected to lift 210,000 people out of poverty.
