Proposal in US To Amend Constitution For Trump’s Third Term
Republican Congressman Andy Ogles has proposed an amendment to the US Constitution that would repeal the 22nd Amendment, which limits presidents to two terms, according to Axios.
Ogles, a staunch supporter of President Donald Trump, argued that the change is necessary to address the challenges left by the Biden administration.
«It’s vital to give President Trump every resource needed to correct the disastrous direction set by the previous administration,» he said.
To pass, the proposal requires approval from 290 members of the House of Representatives and 67 senators. It must then be ratified by at least 38 states.
The 22nd Amendment, which restricts presidents to two terms, was adopted in 1951. It was introduced in the aftermath of Franklin D. Roosevelt’s unprecedented four terms in office.
