Uzbekistan’s NMMC to Plant 480,000 Trees in 2025, Supporting Green Initiative

Navoi Mining and Metallurgical Company (NMMC) plays a key role in Uzbekistan’s efforts to expand its green spaces as part of the national Yashil Makon initiative. This project aims to increase urban greenery by planting 200 mln trees annually, boosting green coverage from 8% to 30%. NMMC’s involvement in this significant environmental initiative helps support the government’s push toward a greener and more sustainable future.
NMMC’s contributions to tree planting and environmental rehabilitation
In 2024, NMMC successfully planted 460,000 seedlings, contributing to the broader goal of improving Uzbekistan’s environmental landscape. One of the key achievements includes the planting of 30,000 saxaul trees around the Turbay mine in the Tamdy district, creating a protective green barrier.
At Pistali mine and Hydrometallurgical Plant No. 6 in Nurata district, NMMC planted 230,000 seedlings over 155 hectares, utilizing drip irrigation to ensure sustainable growth. Additionally, crops such as melons and watermelons were cultivated between tree rows, providing fresh produce for local workers. In another effort, 100,000 saxaul trees were planted in Muynak and along the Aral Sea bed to help restore the fragile ecosystem.
Expansion plans for 2025
Building on its success in 2024, NMMC plans to plant 480,000 additional trees in 2025. This ongoing effort supports Uzbekistan’s environmental objectives, contributing to sustainable land rehabilitation and helping to significantly expand the country’s green spaces. NMMC’s commitment to these initiatives is a critical part of Uzbekistan’s broader environmental strategy for the future.
