Uzbekistan’s Foreign Trade Turnover Reaches $4.5 Bn in January 2025

Uzbekistan’s foreign trade turnover for January 2025 stood at $4.5 bn, reflecting a 7.1% increase compared to January 2024. Exports from Uzbekistan reached $1.31 bn, marking a 14.1% increase y/y. Imports totaled $3.2 bn, an increase of 4.4%, resulting in a negative trade balance of $1.89 bn, as imports continued to exceed exports.

Who were Uzbekistan’s key trade partners

The country’s main trade partners in January 2025 were China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkey, and Germany. China made up 22.1% of the total trade turnover, followed by Russia at 17.7% and Kazakhstan at 7%. Other significant partners included Turkey (4.7%) and Germany (3.8%).

Imports came from 137 countries, with over two-thirds of these goods coming from China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Germany, Turkey, South Korea, and India. For exports, Russia, Afghanistan, Turkey, China, Kazakhstan, France, and the UAE accounted for 57.8% of the total value.

Uzbekistan’s top export partners during this period included Russia, Afghanistan, Turkey, China, Kazakhstan, France, and the UAE. These countries contributed to 57.8% of Uzbekistan’s total exports, demonstrating the diversification of Uzbekistan’s export markets.

How was trade distributed across regions

Tashkent accounted for 41.7% of Uzbekistan’s foreign trade turnover in January 2025, totaling $1.88 bn. In contrast, Syrdarya province saw the smallest share, at 1.2%, amounting to $52.1 mn.

Trade with CIS countries accounted for 36.5% of Uzbekistan’s total trade turnover, showing a 2.4% increase over the previous year. However, trade with non-CIS countries saw a slight decline of 2.4%, comprising 63.5% of the total turnover.

In total, Uzbekistan’s trade with CIS countries reached $1.65 bn in January 2025, with exports totaling $602.8 mn and imports at $1.04 bn.
