Tajikistan’s Mining Sector Grows 43% in 2024, Reaching $1.2 bn

Tajikistan’s mining sector has experienced notable growth, with the total value of production in the industry reaching TJS 13.3 bn (approximately $1.2 bn) in 2024. According to data from the Statistical Agency of Tajikistan, industrial production in the country saw a substantial 43% increase compared to 2023.

The mining industry’s performance was particularly strong, with several key sectors showing impressive increases. Coal production, including both hard coal and lignite, grew by 20%. In addition, metal ores production saw a significant 1.5-fold rise, and other mineral production increased by 20.9% compared to the previous year.

Overall, Tajikistan’s industrial output reached TJS 53.8 bn (around $4.9 bn) in 2024, marking a 20% increase from 2023. Manufacturing production grew by 7.6%, while the electricity, gas supply, steam, and air conditioning sector rose by 5.7%. Furthermore, the water supply, waste treatment, and recycling sectors saw a robust increase of 34.9%, reflecting a positive trend across various industries.

Tajikistan has also witnessed growth in the number of industrial enterprises, with 3,774 enterprises registered by January 1. This is an increase of 330 enterprises compared to the same period the previous year. Notably, 740 new enterprises and workshops were established in 2024, including 528 industrial enterprises, signaling a positive shift towards diversification and industrial expansion in the country.
