The night before, the United Nations (UN) General Assembly adopted two resolutions concerning the military conflict in Ukraine. Both resolutions call for a “comprehensive, just, and lasting peace” and affirm Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

However, the opinions of UN member states on how to achieve peace diverged. Two resolutions were put to a vote simultaneously. The first, L.10, “Promoting Comprehensive, Just, and Lasting Peace in Ukraine,” was drafted by Ukraine and several European countries. The second, L.11, “The Road to Peace,” was proposed by the United States.

Ninety-three countries voted in favour of L.10, 18 were against it and 65, including Uzbekistan, chose to abstain.

Regarding L.11, this resolution was finalised during the meeting. Initially, it lacked sufficient references to the causes of the war and assertions about Ukraine’s territorial integrity.

The same 93 countries supported the amended draft of L.11, while eight countries, including Russia and Belarus, opposed it. The United States abstained from this vote.

Kursiv Uzbekistan reported that Uzbekistan supported a resolution advocating for the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Palestine.
