Starting in 2025, Uzbekistan plans to implement an ecological rating system to assess state bodies and social infrastructure based on their environmental impact and the adoption of green technologies. This initiative aims to encourage sustainable practices across all sectors of the economy and drive significant environmental improvements. The announcement comes from the first roundtable of this year’s Uzbekistan Country Platform.
The Uzbek government has outlined key milestones for integrating green projects into national development strategies. The country’s commitment includes:
- 10% of green projects incorporated into national strategies by 2025,
- 25% by 2027, and
- 50% by 2030, with a strong focus on sustainable growth in diverse sectors, including energy, agriculture, and construction.
These goals reflect Uzbekistan’s broader vision to address climate change challenges while enhancing economic development through green initiatives.

Focus areas of Uzbekistan’s green economy initiative
In line with these targets, Uzbekistan has identified seven key areas for the development of green projects. These focus areas will guide future investments and policy initiatives:
- Efficiency of water and raw material use
Emphasis will be placed on water conservation, wastewater treatment, and the recycling of materials. - Improvement of air and soil quality
Initiatives will focus on reducing pollution and enhancing soil quality through sustainable practices. - Sustainable agriculture and forestry, ecotourism
Uzbekistan plans to develop sustainable agricultural and forestry practices while promoting ecotourism and biodiversity conservation. - Green buildings
The government aims to increase the construction of green buildings, focusing on residential, commercial, and industrial developments. - Renewable energy
Investments in renewable energy sources, such as wind, solar, hydro, and geothermal, will be a key focus. The development of hydrogen energy infrastructure is also a priority. - Increasing energy efficiency
Efforts will be made to improve energy efficiency in industrial facilities, public sectors, and residential buildings.
By focusing on these priority areas, Uzbekistan is working to build a more sustainable economy while also meeting its environmental commitments.
