A painting by Flemish artist Pieter Bruegel the Younger, which was stolen in 1974 in Poland, was found in the Netherlands, reports the publication De Telegraaf.
It is about the painting, which depicts a peasant woman carrying water and tongs with coal. The work before the kidnapping was exhibited in the National Museum in Gdansk.
According to Da Telegraaf, the painting could have been smuggled out of Poland. Also Polish security services may be involved in its theft.
For 50 years it was believed that the work of Bruegel the Younger was lost forever. However, in autumn 2024 detective Arthur Brand received information that the painting is in a museum in the Dutch Gauda.
After comparing data from the archives and information from Interpol, Brand concluded that the painting in Gouda belongs to the pen of Bruegel the Younger.

Pieter Bruegel the Younger was born in 1564 in Brussels. He is known for his paintings of the Last Judgement. Later the artist focused on works about the life of peasants.

Earlier Kursiv Uzbekistan wrote that a visitor to the Museum of Santa Giulia in Brescia (Italy) accidentally tore a painting of the XVI century.
