
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan delivered a statement at a ceremony honoring March 8, emphasising the country’s commitment to enhancing social protection for women. His remarks were reported by the press office of the head of state.
He noted that, following an assessment of the situation of women in each mahalla, 1 mln women in need of support have been documented in a “women’s notebook.” This year, targeted efforts will focus on assisting these women, including 162,000 women with disabilities who will receive medical care in sanatoria, clini, and their local mahallas.
Furthermore, Mirziyoyev announced that 130,000 Uzbek women who have lost their primary earners will receive financial assistance, while housing conditions will be improved for 6,000 women. Initiatives will also be implemented to help unemployed women find jobs.
In addition, 50,000 women facing difficult life circumstances will receive training in entrepreneurship. They will also be offered psychological support and access to recreational areas. Kudratulla Rafikov from the Trade Union Federation Council will oversee this initiative.
The government plans to equip 230 maternity centers and provide cancer screening to an additional 1.5 mln Uzbeks for early diagnosis.
“The promotion of physical culture and sports among women is a vital factor in encouraging the development of a healthy lifestyle within society.” This year, the head of state emphasised that 4 mln women and girls from all neighborhoods will participate in mass sports competitions.
