A street in Paris has been named after the Uzbek city of Samarkand, marking a new step in cultural and diplomatic relations between Uzbekistan and France. President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev attended the inauguration ceremony during his official visit to France.
As part of his visit, Mirziyoyev also met with the Mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo. The Uzbek leader expressed his appreciation for the decision to name the street after Samarkand, highlighting the historical significance of the city. He also congratulated Hidalgo on the successful organisation of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The Paris mayor, in turn, thanked Uzbekistan for its support in ensuring public security during the sporting events.
During the meeting, both sides discussed cooperation in urban planning, the development of green spaces, and improvements in public transport infrastructure. These discussions align with broader efforts to enhance sustainable urban development.
Additionally, a commemorative certificate, signed by both Mirziyoyev and Hidalgo, will be displayed at the museum within the Paris City Hall to symbolise the strengthened partnership between the two countries.
