KazMunayGas Launches Digital Hydrogen Atlas to Support Low-Carbon Strategy

KazMunayGas (KMG), in partnership with KMG Engineering, has developed a Digital Hydrogen Atlas as part of its Low-Carbon Development Programme. The tool aims to support data-driven decision-making in Kazakhstan’s transition towards cleaner energy.
The atlas provides a digital overview of available water resources and renewable energy potential in the western regions of Kazakhstan. It includes technical and economic data relevant to the production of green hydrogen.
KMG has assessed and digitised data for four key regions: West Kazakhstan, Atyrau, Aktobe, and Mangystau. The atlas features three main analytical blocks: water availability, renewable energy sources (solar and wind), and estimated hydrogen production costs.
The digital platform serves as a technical base for future hydrogen energy projects in the country. It enables users to evaluate different scenarios for hydrogen production with limited environmental impact.
By integrating geographic, resource, and cost data, the atlas aims to guide investment planning and support Kazakhstan’s ambitions in low-carbon energy development.
