Uzbekistan’s Senate has approved a draft law banning the supply and sale of electronic cigarettes (vapes), according to the parliamentary press service.

The legislation introduces amendments to both the Criminal Code and the Administrative Code, establishing penalties for the production, manufacture, purchase and sale of banned tobacco products including vapes and related liquids.

The law also sets out liability for transporting, importing or exporting such products.

Officials highlight that the law not only ensures punishment for offenders but also allows exemption from liability for individuals who voluntarily report their actions to the authorities and surrender banned products.

Senators stated that the new legislation aims to protect public health and the environment from nicotine-based products.
