How Many Foreign Students Are Studying in Uzbekistan

India tops the list as Uzbekistan hosts 12,500 international students

As of the beginning of the 2024–2025 academic year, Uzbekistan’s universities are home to 12,500 foreign students, according to the latest data from the National Statistics Committee.

More than half of these students are from India, with 6,500 Indian nationals enrolled in higher education institutions across the country.

Other top countries of origin include:

  • Turkmenistan – 1,400 students
  • Pakistan – 1,200 students
  • Russia – 732 students
  • Kazakhstan – 639 students

These five countries account for the majority of Uzbekistan’s international student population, highlighting the nation’s growing appeal as a regional education hub.

Kursiv Uzbekistan also reports that a French university is set to open in Uzbekistan by the end of 2025, further expanding international academic cooperation.
