Uzbekistan is advancing its bid to join the World Trade Organisation (WTO) after President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree introducing key regulatory reforms. The move is expected to significantly speed up the accession process, according to the Ministry of Justice.
Under the new measures, exclusive rights held by state-owned enterprises will be abolished, marking a major step towards liberalising the domestic market. The country will also align its energy efficiency requirements for household appliances with international standards, ensuring better market access and compliance.
Additionally, a new declaration procedure for agricultural products will be introduced to bring local practices in line with global trade rules.
Uzbekistan has already begun negotiations with major WTO members, including the United States, China, and the European Union. The government aims to secure full membership as early as next year.
