President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has congratulated the people of Uzbekistan on the Day of Memory and Honour, which this year coincides with the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Second World War. In his message, the president expressed deep respect for veterans of war and labour, acknowledging their historic role in securing peace and freedom for future generations.

«This bright and solemn day, which glorifies the defenders of our peaceful lives, is a time to honour the memory of our brave soldiers who gave their lives for the independence and well-being of our homeland and people,» Mirziyoyev said.

Nearly two million citizens of Uzbekistan took part in the war against fascism. Over 540,000 lost their lives, more than 70 received all three classes of the Order of Glory, and 301 were awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union.

During the war years, Uzbekistan became a key rear base, providing refuge for around 1.5 mln evacuees, including 250,000 children, and supplying the front with equipment, clothing and food.

«Today, as we recall these chapters forever inscribed in our history, we proudly reflect on the true humanism and moral strength of our generous and tolerant people, who remained true to their values even in the most difficult of times,» the president noted.

To mark the occasion, veterans are receiving one-time financial support: $10,000 for war participants and disabled veterans, UZS 25 mln for equivalent categories, and UZS 3 mln for labour front veterans.

«In today’s challenging and unpredictable times, the courage and determination shown by our fathers and grandfathers during the Second World War serve as a source of strength and inspiration for our youth. Their example helps us preserve peace, national unity and interfaith harmony,» Mirziyoyev concluded.

«Once again, I sincerely congratulate our dear veterans and all the people of Uzbekistan. I wish you good health, prosperity, and continued peace for our nation.»
