Uzbekistan and Italy Sign Labour Migration Agreement

During the official visit of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to Uzbekistan, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the Italian delegation signed a bilateral agreement on labour migration, according to the Uzbek President’s press service.

The two leaders also discussed the development of a strategic partnership and ways to strengthen cooperation between Uzbekistan and Italy.

Trade turnover between the two countries has nearly tripled in recent years, while the number of joint ventures has doubled.

Italy expressed readiness to train Uzbek exporters to help them access European markets. In turn, President Mirziyoyev proposed launching a technological partnership programme with Italian companies.

Tashkent and Rome plan to develop investment projects in electrical engineering, agriculture, and other sectors. These projects will be based in an industrial zone near Tashkent. Both countries are also considering the creation of a joint investment fund.

The talks also highlighted cooperation in education and culture. The sides supported the opening of a branch of the University of Tuscia in Uzbekistan and the launch of dual-degree programmes.

Earlier, Kursiv Uzbekistan reported that Italy plans to strengthen its partnership with Uzbekistan.
