Uzbekistan Closes Out 2026 World Cup Qualifiers with Victory Over Qatar

At the Milliy Stadium in Tashkent, the Uzbekistan national football team played its final match of the second round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, defeating Qatar 3–0.
Timur Kapadze’s squad had already secured qualification for the 2026 World Cup ahead of this match. Nevertheless, the White Wolves fielded their full starting lineup: Utkir Yusupov in goal; defenders Abdukodir Khusanov, Akmal Mozgovoy and Husniddin Alikulov; midfielders Alijanov, Khamrobekov, Masharipov, Nasrullaev, Turgunbaev, and Abbosbek Fayzullaev; and striker Eldor Shomurodov leading the attack.
First Half: Turgunbaev Opens the Scoring
Uzbekistan took control early in the game. Azizbek Turgunbaev opened the scoring in the 28th minute with a stunning strike into the near top corner after a run down the wing. Uzbekistan continued to create chances before halftime, but the score remained 1–0. Qatar offered little in attack, playing conservatively.

Second Half: Captain Doubles the Lead
In the second half, substitute Jamshid Iskanderov delivered a brilliant pass to Eldor Shomurodov, who calmly slotted home to make it 2–0. Abbosbek Fayzullaev, playing despite an injury, received a standing ovation from fans — the young midfielder has already become a fan favourite.
Igor Sergeev, who had just come on as a substitute, added a third goal. The Uzbek striker broke through one-on-one and finished confidently to seal the 3–0 result.
Kursiv Uzbekistan also reports that Abdukodir Khusanov and the incredible nation of Uzbekistan are bursting with pride and celebration as they achieve a monumental milestone by securing their very first spot at the FIFA World Cup
