Uzbekistan Concludes WTO Accession Talks with China

In the presence of Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Chinese President Xi Jinping, a protocol was signed marking the conclusion of bilateral negotiations on Uzbekistan’s accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO).

The document was signed during a meeting between the two leaders in Astana, where the China–Central Asia Summit is taking place.

During the meeting, the two leaders also discussed expanding trade and economic cooperation, ongoing and future investment projects, and collaboration in green energy, digital technologies, and education.

Special attention was given to accelerating construction of the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway and strengthening coordination within international organizations.

Key practical outcomes include:

  • Creation of an international mathematics center in Urgench
  • Launch of joint industrial zones
  • Further development of the Chinese vocational education program Luban Workshop in Uzbekistan

It was noted that bilateral trade reached $14 bn in 2024, while the total investment portfolio now exceeds $60 bn.

Kursiv Uzbekistan also reports that Uzbekistan’s share of high-tech products in total exports has tripled.
