The Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan has adopted a resolution aimed at expanding the use of environmentally friendly goods and services in public procurement. According to the official document, the share of such procurement is expected to reach 30% of total public contracts by 2030.

The resolution «On Measures to Improve the System of Supporting Green Public Procurement» was developed with the support of the World Bank. It sets out mechanisms to promote energy-efficient and eco-labelled goods in tenders, along with incentives for businesses implementing sustainable practices.

What the New Measures Include

The resolution outlines several key steps:

  • Introduction of preferential conditions for companies that adopt green technologies.
  • Implementation of a product eco-labelling system to certify environmentally safe goods.
  • Support for the use of recycled materials in the production of procured items.
  • Promotion of energy-efficient and low-emission technologies in manufacturing.
  • Capacity-building initiatives to train procurement specialists in sustainable practices.

Dialogue Between Government and Business

To mark the adoption of the document, the Ministry of Economy and Finance, in partnership with the World Bank, held a roundtable in Tashkent. The discussion focused on aligning procurement practices with Uzbekistan’s climate and environmental goals.

Earlier, Kursiv Uzbekistan reported that the New Development Bank (NDB) of BRICS has approved Uzbekistan’s and Colombia’s applications to join the institution.
