Uzbek Factories Caused Environmental Damage Worth 332 Bn UZS

Since early 2023, Uzbekistan’s State Environmental Oversight Inspectorate has issued 4,700 orders demanding compensation for environmental damage totaling 322 b UZS, according to the Ministry of Ecology.

Key findings:

  • 5,400 enterprises inspected
  • 3,400 environmental violations identified
  • 1,700 officials held accountable
  • 245 companies suspended
  • 60.3 bn UZS in compensation for pollution assessed
  • 275 criminal cases opened by prosecutors

The inspectorate conducted over 3,500 raids, uncovering 111,000 violations of environmental law and issuing 115 billion UZS in administrative fines.
