On July 1, the capital of Uzbekistan hosted the opening of the business conference Capital Market: New Opportunities for Investment, organised by Kursiv Uzbekistan. The event, streamed online via Zoom, brought together investors, regulators and business leaders to discuss the transformation of Uzbekistan’s financial landscape.

Opening the event, Anastasiya Novikova, CEO of Kursiv Uzbekistan, emphasised the importance of discussing investments during the quieter summer season.

«We deliberately chose the summer: yes, half of Tashkent is on vacation, but this is the best time to talk about investments. While you rest, your money keeps working.»

She highlighted the rapid growth of Uzbekistan’s capital market, noting that trading volume on the stock exchange surged sevenfold over the past year to $18 bn, equivalent to more than 16% of the country’s GDP.

Novikova also pointed to increasing financial literacy and changing investment behaviour among citizens:

«According to the Central Bank, more than 60% of Uzbeks saved money last year. The question now is, how to invest it wisely?»

She added that new tools are reshaping Uzbekistan’s investment landscape, from bonds and IPOs to startups and digital assets.

«The old model was simple: dollars, cars, apartments. But today, we see a growing range of investment instruments becoming available to individuals.»

Unlike traditional conferences, Novikova emphasised an informal and open format:

«We didn’t use slides or rigid presentations. This is a space for honest discussion, what’s working and what’s not.»
