Nearly 95% of all cars imported to Uzbekistan in May were manufactured in China, according to the National Statistics Committee.

Vehicle imports have been steadily increasing in recent months. From January to May, Uzbekistan imported 18,378 passenger cars worth $325.3 mln.

In May alone, 6,307 cars were brought into the country, valued at $111.6 mln. In April, imports reached 5,121 vehicles worth nearly $99 mln.

More than half of all imported cars this year have been electric. A total of 9,789 electric vehicles were delivered to Uzbekistan since the start of 2024.

China Dominates Market as Korea and India Trail Behind

China remains the top exporter of vehicles to Uzbekistan, supplying 15,800 cars since January. This accounts for over 86% of the country’s total imports. In May, Chinese manufacturers shipped 5,969 vehicles — nearly 95% of all monthly imports.

South Korea ranks second with 1,882 cars delivered this year, or 10.2% of the total. However, its May shipments dropped sharply to just 168 vehicles, nearly half the April figure.

India stands in third place with 168 vehicles delivered earlier this year, though no cars were imported from India in May.

Uzbekistan also received 122 cars from Japan, with about a quarter arriving in May. Meanwhile, vehicle imports from the United States rose notably in May, reaching 41 cars — the same number imported during the previous four months combined.

All other countries combined accounted for 260 imported vehicles so far this year.

Kursiv also reports that as of June 1, 2025, Uzbekistan’s transport services market has reached UZS 70.7 trln ($5.6 bn).
