Silk Road Tourism Forum Kicks Off in Samarkand

The international dialogue of the World Tourism Alliance (WTA) titled Silk Road Tourism has opened in Samarkand, according to Uzbekistan’s Tourism Committee. The forum has brought together 250 participants.
Alongside WTA, the forum is organized by Uzbekistan’s Tourism Committee and Ministry of Ecology, with support from China’s Ministry of Culture.
«The event strengthens Uzbekistan’s image as one of Central Asia’s leading travel destinations and opens up new opportunities for the development of international tourism, cultural exchange, and mutually beneficial cooperation in the region,» the Tourism Committee stated.
Among the attendees are Zurab Pololikashvili, Secretary-General of the UN World Tourism Organisation, and Zhang Xu, Chairman of the WTA.
The World Tourism Alliance was established in 2017 to promote global tourism development. It includes over 20 member cities from Europe and Asia.
Kursiv Uzbekistan reports that tourist arrivals from Japan to Uzbekistan had increased by 53.4%.
