World Boxing Cup Astana 2025 Quarter-Finals: Day 4 Recap

Quarter-final bouts continued yesterday on June 3 at the World Boxing Cup: Kazakhstan – Astana 2025, held at the Zhaksylyk Ushkempirov Martial Art Palace.
36 quarter-final matches were held in two sessions. All winners progressed to the semi-finals and secured bronze medals.
Nigeria’s Patricia Mbata won 5:0 against Poland’s Aleksandra Cyrek in the women’s 70kg category, marking Nigeria’s first win in the competition. In the men’s 60kg, Luiz Oliveira of Brazil defeated India’s Sachin Sachin in a 3:2 split decision.
Germany’s Nikita Putilov, a former World Boxing Cup gold medallist, advanced to the semi-final with a 5:0 win over Bulgaria’s Yordan Morejon in the men’s 90kg+.
Sixteen bouts are scheduled for day five, including four semi-finals, starting at 19:00 (UTC+5).
Kazakhstan Results
Kazakhstan’s Nurbek Oralbay advanced to the semi-final in the men’s 80kg after his Indian opponent, Lakshya Chahar, withdrew due to injury.
In the women’s 70kg, Natalya Bogdanova won her bout against Maria Dos Santos Barbara of Brazil and advanced to the semi-final.
Aidana Zabynbekova was scheduled to compete in the women’s 57kg, but her opponent, Alisa Mendoza of the United States, withdrew. Zabynbekova progressed to the semi-final.
Serik Temirzhanov competed against Shunsuke Kitamoto of Japan in the men’s 60kg. The judges awarded the win to Kitamoto, ending Temirzhanov’s participation in the tournament.
Mahmud Sabyrkhan (55kg) progressed to the semi-final after knocking down his Filipino opponent in both the first and second rounds. The bout ended after the second knockdown.
Sabyrzhan Akkalakov faced Ofori Joshua of Canada in the men’s 65kg. Judges favoured the Canadian boxer in the first round, but Akkalakov won the remaining two rounds and progressed to the semi-final.
In the men’s super heavyweight division, Aybek Oralbay defeated Diego Lenzi of Italy. Oralbay scored a knockdown in the final round and won by a 4:1 decision.
Uzbekistan’s Result
Uzbekistan’s Feruza Kazakova won her quarter-final bout in the women’s 54kg against Huang Hsiao-Wen of Taiwan by split decision.
Kazakova advanced to the semi-final and secured a bronze medal. Her opponent, a previous Olympic bronze medallist and two-time world champion, did not progress to the medal stage.ze medal secured. Huang, in contrast, ends her campaign without a podium finish.
