Mark Snow, the composer behind the unmistakable theme of The X-Files, has died at 78, Variety reports. No cause of death has been confirmed.

Snow scored more than 200 episodes of the series and created its iconic title music, which became a hallmark of 1990s television. His work helped shape the eerie atmosphere that defined the show’s legacy.

In addition to The X-Files, Snow composed for Smallville, which explored the early years of Superman, and contributed to Millennium, another mystery series developed by X-Files creator Chris Carter.

First airing in 1993, The X-Files followed FBI agents investigating paranormal cases and government coverups. The series ran until 2002 and returned for revival seasons in 2016 and 2018.

Kursiv Uzbekistan previously reported the death of American actor Michael Madsen at 67.
