US President Donald Trump criticised Elon Musk for launching the «America Party» and opposing the administration’s new spending package.

In a Truth Social post, Trump called Musk a «train wreck» and said third parties only create disruption and chaos. He added that Musk’s plan to form a third party is ridiculous and not viable in the US political system.

The clash follows Musk’s announcement that the America Party would oppose the recently signed bill, which removes tax incentives for electric vehicles. Trump defended the move, stating the EV mandate was ridiculous and harmful to consumers.

Trump also revealed that Musk had previously endorsed him while being aware of his stance against EV mandates. The president expressed surprise at Musk’s opposition, noting it had been part of his platform for two years.

Musk has promised to fund primary challengers against Republicans who supported the bill and has publicly backed Congressman Thomas Massie, who voted against it.

The disagreement highlights growing tensions between Trump and Musk, who were political allies in 2024. Republican strategists warn that internal divisions may affect party unity ahead of the 2026 elections.
