Visitors planning to use the Tashkent Metro should be aware of recent changes: cash payments at ticket counters have been suspended at several key stations. The announcement, made via the metro’s official Telegram channel, marks a shift towards a fully cashless fare system.

Ticket offices are now closed at the following stations:
Mirzo Ulug’bek, Xalqlar Do’stligi, Paxtakor, Hamid Olimjon, Pushkin, Do’stlik, Toshkent, Oybek, Tinchlik, Shahriston, Bodomzor, Minor and Abdulla Qodiriy.

In their place, automated machines will be installed on a trial basis to make buying tickets quicker and more efficient.

Better Value for Tourists Using Card or App

While one-time paper tickets were once popular among passengers, their use has dropped from nearly 50% to just 6–7%. As of January 1, 2025, travellers using cashless methods pay only 1,700 UZS per ride – significantly cheaper than the 3,000 UZS cash fare.

Accepted Payment Methods

To access Tashkent’s clean and efficient metro, you can use:

  • The ATTO transport card (need to register at specific stations around the city to receive the card)
  • Bank cards with NFC chips (including Uzcard, Humo, Visa and MasterCard)
  • A QR code generated in apps such as ATTO or Click
  • Biometric options like FacePay (at select stations) and PalmPay

These modern systems ensure smoother entry, shorter queues and a more tourist-friendly experience. Whether you’re heading to historical sights or navigating the city, the Tashkent Metro offers an affordable, smart and reliable way to travel.
