President Shavkat Mirziyoyev addressed the issue during a video conference on road safety. He stated that traffic accidents caused economic losses equivalent to 0.4% of the country’s GDP.
Over 9,000 Road Accidents Reported in 2024
According to official data, Uzbekistan recorded over 9,300 traffic accidents last year. These incidents left more than 2,200 people dead and nearly 9,000 injured.
Samarkand, Tashkent, and Fergana See Highest Fatalities
The highest number of fatalities occurred in the Samarkand, Tashkent, and Fergana regions. Authorities plan to strengthen traffic enforcement and infrastructure improvements in these areas.
President Mirziyoyev emphasised that the human toll is accompanied by serious financial damage. Addressing road safety is now seen as both a public health and economic priority.
