Uzbekistan Launches $140 mln Waste Power Plant

On July 7, construction officially began on a waste-to-energy plant in Khodjaabad district of Uzbekistan’s Andijan region. The project, developed in partnership with Chinese company China International Camce, marks a significant step in the country’s green energy and waste management strategy.
Valued at $140 mln, the facility will process 1,500 tonnes of household waste daily and generate 240 mln kWh of electricity annually. The plant is scheduled to be completed between 2025 and 2027 and is expected to create 100 new jobs.
This initiative is part of Uzbekistan’s broader effort to modernise its energy sector, reduce the use of landfills and lower harmful emissions. It will also introduce advanced technologies in waste processing and renewable energy production, contributing to improved environmental conditions across the region.
The plant is being built under a presidential decree, which outlines the development of investment projects focused on generating electricity from solid household waste. The project reflects Uzbekistan’s commitment to environmental sustainability and innovation in clean energy infrastructure.
Kursiv also reports that as of July 6, 2025, Uzbekistan’s solar and wind power plants have generated a combined 5 bn kWh of electricity since the beginning of the year.
