Kazakhstan Blocks 3,500 Foreign Nationals Over Terrorism Concerns

Kazakhstan has denied entry to over 3,500 foreign nationals since the start of 2025 due to suspected links with terrorist organisations. The figure was confirmed by Yermek Sagimbayev, Chairman of the National Security Committee (NSC), in an interview with Kazinform.
According to the NSC, 246 individuals directly involved in terrorism were stopped at the country’s borders. Authorities also identified 16 people wanted in their home countries for religious extremism or terrorist crimes.

Security services have strengthened screening at entry and exit points. Migration routes are being closely monitored to prevent infiltration by foreign radicals, Sagimbayev said.
An additional 800 migrants were found to support extremist ideologies. Authorities deported them after background checks confirmed security risks.
Online extremism under surveillance
Kazakhstan is also stepping up efforts in the digital space. Since January, the NSC has blocked more than 9,000 online materials promoting terrorism and religious extremism.
Officials say the country remains focused on preventive measures against radicalisation, both offline and online.
