North Korea Backs Russia’s War in Ukraine

North Korea has confirmed its full support for Russia’s war in Ukraine. The announcement followed a meeting on July 12 between Kim Jong Un and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Wonsan, a coastal city in North Korea.
State media reported that North Korea supports all measures Russia takes in Ukraine. A new cooperation plan for 2026–2027 was signed during the visit.
North Korea and Russia Expand Strategic Ties
North Korean Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui also met Lavrov. The two discussed joint action in global forums and closer military and diplomatic cooperation.
Lavrov called the talks a strategic dialogue. He praised North Korea’s firm support for Russia’s goals in Ukraine.
Military Support Confirmed by Russian Officials
Russia’s foreign ministry said Pyongyang’s position remains unchanged. Lavrov thanked North Korea for backing Russia on the battlefield.
In 2024, North Korea reportedly sent over 10,000 troops to help Russian forces. The Pentagon released this estimate last year.
U.S. Confirms Weapons Deliveries from North Korea
Washington says Pyongyang has supplied missiles and ammunition to Russia. These were used in Ukraine, according to U.S. intelligence.
The State Department warned that North Korea’s actions risk breaking international sanctions. U.S. officials say the move raises global security concerns.
In 2024, Moscow and Pyongyang signed a mutual defence pact. Their July meeting adds momentum to the growing alliance.
