Uzbekistan plans to establish production of dry cooling towers in one of the country’s free economic zones, the Uzatom agency has reported. This effort supports the ongoing small nuclear power plant project in Jizzakh.
The equipment will enable a cooling system for the future plant that does not require large water bodies. In dry cooling towers, water will circulate through numerous small pipes and be cooled by air flows generated by fans.
The localisation of equipment production in Uzbekistan was discussed during a meeting between the agency and representatives of Hungarian companies MVM EGI Zrt and Polus. The event was also attended by staff from Hungary’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the management of OTP Bank Uzbekistan and Russian partners involved in the nuclear project.
To facilitate equipment localisation, a Hungarian-Uzbek joint venture is planned.
The parties also discussed strengthening the country’s professional capacity. The Hungarian side agreed to support the launch of educational programmes and internships for Uzbek specialists.
Kursiv also reports that Kazakhstan plans to begin construction of its nuclear power plant in two year.
