Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air will suspend all flights from Abu Dhabi starting September 1, including its route to Tashkent, the Associated Press reports.

Wizz Air stated that the strategic reorganisation aims to strengthen the company’s position in Central and Eastern Europe and in certain Western European markets.

«Wizz Air will suspend all locally based flight operations effective 1 September 2025 and intends to exit from the joint venture going forward and will focus on its core markets,» the airline announced on Instagram.

As a result of suspending operations in Abu Dhabi, Wizz Air plans to exit its joint venture there and focus on its core markets.

A check by Kursiv on Wizz Air’s website showed that tickets from Tashkent to Abu Dhabi are no longer available for booking not just from September onwards but from July. Searching flights between Tashkent and Abu Dhabi results in 404 error.

Wizz Air Abu Dhabi agreed to launch flights to Uzbekistan in summer 2022. The budget airline was granted permission to operate between Abu Dhabi, Tashkent and Samarkand in August and began flying the routes in winter.

In June 2023, a delegation from Bukhara region proposed launching direct flights to Bukhara. At the time, Wizz Air Abu Dhabi’s commercial manager Krislen Kerry expressed support for the idea.

Wizz Air was founded in September 2003 and operated its first flight in May 2004. As of 2025, the airline operates approximately 229 Airbus A320/A321 family aircraft.

Kursiv also reports that Uzbekistan’s aviation agency has issued Air China an operational permit for regular international flights.
