On July 21, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting where preparations for the upcoming autumn-winter period were addressed. Officials presented measures to expand energy production, inject gas into underground storage and ensure balanced energy supply.

Construction is under way at the Talimarjan thermal power plant on two combined-cycle units with a total capacity of 1,065 MW, and a new 1,573 MW power station is being built in Syrdarya. Together, these facilities are expected to generate 20 bn kWh annually.

Additionally, by the end of this year, several new hydropower plants with a combined capacity of 162 MW will be commissioned in Tashkent, Namangan, Kashkadarya and Surkhandarya regions, producing 648 mln kWh of electricity per year.

These projects are set to bolster electricity supplies for both the population and the country’s fast-growing economy. Repairs of grids and substations are already under way, along with efforts to stockpile fuel, spare parts and equipment to ensure the stable operation of power plants.

President Mirziyoyev emphasised the need for ongoing modernisation of infrastructure and the importance of uninterrupted energy supply.

Kursiv also reports that the government of Tajikistan has approved a draft agreement on electricity supplies from the Rogun HPP to Uzbekistan.
