Prince William and Prince Harry’s Cousin Rosie Roche Dies Aged 20

Rosie Jeanne Burke Roche, a distant cousin of Prince William and Prince Harry and granddaughter of Princess Diana’s uncle, has died suddenly at the age of 20, The Independent reports. Her mother and sister discovered her at the family home in Norton, near Malmesbury in Wiltshire, on July 14, just as she was preparing for a trip with friends.
An inquest into her death was formally opened at the Wiltshire and Swindon coroner’s court and has been adjourned until October 25. Wiltshire Police confirmed there are no suspicious circumstances or third-party involvement. The coroner reported that Rosie died from a traumatic head injury.
University pays tribute to a gifted and much-loved student
Rosie was in her first year at Durham University, where she was studying English Literature. A death notice published in the Yorkshire Post described her as a «darling daughter» and «incredible sister». She was the eldest child of Edmund Hugh Burke Roche and Phillipa Kate Victoria Long and a descendant of the Barons Fermoy. Her grandfather, the 5th Baron Fermoy and uncle of Princess Diana, passed away in 1984.
Durham University principal Professor Wendy Powers expressed deep sorrow over the loss, stating:
«Rosie had settled beautifully into college life. She was known for her creativity, love of literature, and vibrant personality. Her energy and passion will be deeply missed by both staff and students.»
Buckingham Palace declined to comment on Rosie’s passing. Wiltshire Police reiterated the absence of foul play and requested privacy for the Roche family during their time of grief.
Rosie’s family is planning a private funeral, with a memorial service to be held at a later date.
