Netflix’s gothic hit Wednesday, led by Jenna Ortega as the sardonic heroine, has officially been renewed for a third season, even before the second chapter premieres on August 6. The early green light signals the show’s growing momentum and enduring popularity.

Set once more at the eerie Nevermore Academy, Season 2 is poised to deliver even darker, more layered narratives, while preserving the signature deadpan humour that helped catapult the series into streaming history. Season 1 of Wednesday remains the most-watched English-language series on Netflix to date.

According to showrunner and co-creator Alfred Gough, the renewal reflects not only the show’s appeal but the collaborative spirit behind its success. «Television has always been a team effort,» Gough remarks. «Miles [Millar, co-creator and co-showrunner] and I know how rare a show like this is. It’s the result of a unique blend of writing, directing, acting, production and fan enthusiasm. We’re incredibly thankful and eager to keep telling stories in this world.»

The upcoming season will dive deeper into the mysterious Addams Family universe, expanding the lore of Nevermore Academy and introducing new enigmatic characters. Familiar faces will return in even greater capacity, with Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones), Gomez (Luis Guzmán) and Pugsley (Isaac Ordonez) all set for more substantial roles. «We believe Season 2 is not only more twisted but funnier too,» says Gough.

Looking ahead, the creative team hints that Season 3 will delve further into character development and the Addams legacy.

«Our mission is always to make each season better than the last,» Gough explains. «We want to continue peeling back the layers of Wednesday’s world.» Millar adds, «Viewers can expect to uncover more family secrets and meet even more members of the Addams clan in Season 3.»

As for when the third season might creep onto screens, the creators are keeping those details under wraps, in their typically macabre style. «I could tell you,» Millar jokes, «but then I’d have to bury you in a shallow grave.»

While Season 3 remains a shadowy promise, fans will not have long to wait for their next dose of gothic intrigue. Wednesday Season 2 will be released in two parts, with the first arriving on 6 August and the second dropping on September 3.

Kursiv also reports that HBO’s television adaptation of Harry Potter has officially entered production at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the United Kingdom.
