President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has urged regional officials to focus on cultivating agricultural products that can withstand extreme weather conditions, such as heat and frost. His comments came during a government meeting dedicated to boosting the country’s agri-export potential.

«Officials must stop blaming the weather and start adapting to it,» Mirziyoyev emphasized, pointing out that in a time of shifting climates, every export market holds strategic value for Uzbekistan.

He called particular attention to Surxondaryo, Tashkent regions, and Karakalpakstan — areas that currently lag behind others in fruit and vegetable exports. Mirziyoyev stressed that these regions must do more to contribute to the nation’s growing food trade.

In the first half of 2025, Uzbekistan exported food products worth $1.3 billion — a 44% increase year-on-year — expanding its reach to 16 new countries.

Over the past three years, 250,000 hectares of cotton and grain fields have been repurposed for food crops. Additionally, 160,000 hectares of orchards and vineyards have been planted, and 1,500 agro-projects worth $1 bn have been launched.
