Legendary game designer Hideo Kojima has made it clear he won’t be playing Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, the upcoming remake of the iconic 2004 game he originally directed. When asked about it during a recent interview with Ssense, Kojima simply laughed and said, «No, I won’t.»
Kojima, the mastermind behind Metal Gear and Death Stranding, departed Konami in 2015 following a well-publicized fallout. Since then, fans have speculated about lingering tensions, especially as Konami moves forward with reviving some of Kojima’s signature titles without his involvement.
Although Kojima rarely plays games these days, he prefers museums and other forms of art, his complete disinterest in Delta feels personal. Known for publicly praising media he enjoys, Kojima’s silence (and laugh) speaks volumes.
He also addressed his dual mindset as both an artist and entrepreneur: «I think with both the right and left side of my brain.» Balancing creative risks with the realities of funding, Kojima continues to expand his own IPs, Death Stranding is headed for both anime and live-action adaptations.
Whether it’s time constraints or lingering bad blood, Kojima’s refusal to engage with Konami’s remake only deepens the ongoing rift between the developer and his former studio.
