Uzbekistan is set to launch the construction of toll roads connecting its capital Tashkent with the cities of Andijan and Samarkand from next year, according to the Ministry of Economy and Finance’s three-year fiscal strategy.

The initiative forms part of a broader effort to upgrade key international highways across the country. Funding for the project is expected to come from global financial institutions.

Alongside road development, the government is preparing to roll out a high-speed rail link between Tashkent and Samarkand. Authorities are also planning a new rail route connecting Nukus and Bukhara.

Transport Minister Ilkhom Makhkamov previously stated in February that construction of the toll roads would begin in 2025. He noted that the first project had already attracted interest from around 30 companies.

Kursiv also reports that Uzbekistan is expanding its presence in Eurasian logistics, seeking to evolve from a simple transit territory into a key player in international transport.
