Mirziyoyev Advocates for Transit Guarantees for Landlocked Countries

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has proposed the development of an agreement on transit guarantees for countries without direct access to the sea. The initiative was voiced at a conference dedicated to this issue in Turkmenistan.
«Such a mechanism would ensure fair access to ports and transport routes, reduce shipping risks, and contribute to lowering inequality in global logistics,» the head of state emphasised.
Tashkent also supports accelerating the construction of the railway between Uzbekistan and Pakistan and connecting it to a broader corridor that links Uzbekistan with China. A key priority is the development of the Middle Corridor.
Mirziyoyev noted that Central Asian countries require around $40 billion annually in transport sector investment. In this context, he proposed the creation of a UN-backed fund to support countries without access to the sea.
Among other initiatives proposed by the Uzbek leader were: the development of a Vulnerability Index for Landlocked Countries, the establishment of an agriculture development hub in Uzbekistan, and the involvement of Uzbek experts in crafting proposals to jointly address common challenges.
Kursiv Uzbekistan also reports that Shavkat Mirziyoyev has been awarded the Turkmenistan state order.
