Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho has dropped a major hint that his long-anticipated move to Chelsea could be imminent.
The 21-year-old, who has three years left on his Old Trafford contract, has been pushing for a transfer following United’s worst-ever Premier League campaign. His relationship with head coach Ruben Amorim is reportedly irreparable, and he was omitted from the club’s pre-season tour of the United States.
Chelsea have been Garnacho’s preferred destination since showing interest six months ago. Personal terms are understood to be agreed, though the two clubs remain apart on a transfer fee — United are seeking £50 mln, down from the £70 mln they demanded in January.
On Sunday night, Garnacho fuelled speculation by posting a pensive gym photo on Instagram with an hourglass emoji, a move that drew criticism from some United fans.
If the deal is completed, the Argentina international would become Chelsea’s seventh signing of the summer, joining Joao Pedro, Jamie Gittens, Jorrel Hato, Liam Delap, Dario Essugo and Mamadou Sarr.
Speaking in Chicago last week, Amorim acknowledged Garnacho’s talent but said «sometimes things don’t work out» and suggested the player was seeking «a new challenge.»
Tensions between the two have been simmering since May, when Garnacho publicly questioned his 20-minute appearance in United’s Europa League final defeat to Tottenham. His brother later accused Amorim of «throwing him under the bus.»
Kursiv Uzbekistan reports that Premier League giants Manchester United have agreed a deal to sign young goalkeeper Abdulla Al-Hammadi.
