Microsoft to End Windows 11 SE Support in 2026

Microsoft will end support for Windows 11 SE in October 2026, a year after retiring Windows 10. The education-focused operating system, launched in 2021 to compete with Google’s ChromeOS, will no longer receive security updates, bug fixes, or technical assistance after that date as reports GB News.
Windows 11 SE, used in low-cost classroom laptops such as the Surface Laptop SE, restricts users to pre-approved educational apps and was designed for cloud-first management by school administrators. Microsoft confirmed the OS will not receive the upcoming 25H2 update planned for other Windows 11 editions, having already received its final major update in late 2024.
The company advises schools to transition to other Windows 11 editions before the deadline, recommending the purchase of new hardware rather than upgrading existing SE devices — a move likely to impact education budgets.
