Tashkent to Begin $200 Mln Power System Upgrade

Tashkent’s mayor, Shavkat Umurzakov, told Uzbekistan 24 TV channel that President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has approved a project to modernise the capital’s energy system, worth over $200 mln.
City authorities plan to construct new substations, lay fresh electricity lines and upgrade outdated equipment. All work will be carried out in accordance with the city’s master plan.
Shavkat Umurzakov stressed that the project will not use funds from the municipal budget, as financing has been arranged by the president. This will allow work to begin as early as 11 August.
In the first stage, the city aims to address issues at 13 substations across the capital.
Kursiv also reports that specialists from Uzatom are examining how a large nuclear power plant could be integrated into Uzbekistan’s energy system.
