Uzbekistan has amended the procedure for forming and maintaining the register of importers of certain goods from international brands, which are brought into the country under direct contracts with rights holders or their authorised suppliers.

These suppliers include official distributors, dealers, manufacturers’ representatives, their distributors and licensees, the State Customs Committee announced.

One key change reduces the mandatory confirmation period for a brand’s presence on the market from five years to three.

To harmonise brand-related regulations, the wording in official documents has been updated, replacing the names of specific countries with the names of regions. In particular, Japan and the United Arab Emirates have been removed from the list and replaced with the regions of the Middle East and East Asia.

Since January 1, 2023, imports of certain categories of international brand goods to Uzbekistan under direct contracts with brand owners or their authorised suppliers have been subject to reduced import customs duty rates.

Kursiv also reports that Uzbekistan has shown interest in importing cotton from the United States.
